The very BEST Game Day Cookies. Homemade chocolate chip cookies made with oats, shredded coconut, raspberries (optional), and plenty of chocolate chips + chocolate chunks. Each cookie dough ball is hand stuffed with sweet M&M chocolate candies and baked to a doughy perfection. There’s nothing not to love about these sweet chocolate cookies. Each bite is slightly crisp on the edges but soft and gooey in the center with a slight sprinkling of salt.

These yummy game-day cookies work equally well for Valentine’s Day because, hey, it’s the season for both! Are we all excited? The Super Bowl is on Sunday, but it’s closely followed up with some mid-week fun, as Valentine’s Day falls on a Wednesday this year.

It’s going to be such a fun week of celebrations! I am in New York, and New Yorkers love to celebrate! This game is a big deal, so I’m unsure what Sunday night will hold. But I do know it will be fun – and full of yummy food!

I know these look more like Valentine’s Day cookies than a Super Bowl cookie. But it’s the ingredients that we need to focus on. Plus, you can easily personalize these with the M&M colors of your team of choice. Check out this post with an M&M color guide!

These cookies are based on my Cowboy Cookie recipe, which is one of my favorite cookies that I just don’t get time to make enough of. I left out the nuts and pretzels but added in sweet M&Ms and dried raspberries. The raspberries are optional, but they’re pretty darn delicious with all that chocolate.

When I spotted the Valentine’s Day M&M’s at the store, I knew I needed to make a variation of cowboy cookies for the game! These are a must make + serve for Sunday!

Here are the details

Step 1: gather your ingredients

You’ll need the basics: butter, brown sugar, sugar, vanilla, eggs, flour, baking soda, and salt. Simple, nothing fancy, but all good.

For the mix-ins, you’ll need old-fashioned oats, shredded coconut, chocolate chips, and semi-sweet or milk chocolate chunks. If desired, you can add dried raspberries too.

And, of course, M&M’s. You can tailor these cookies to your current needs. For the Super Bowl, simply adjust the M&Ms to match your preferred team. Then swap the colors out for Valentine’s Day, Easter, Halloween, Christmas…you get the idea!

Step 2: mix the wet

Beat the butter with the brown sugar and sugar. Next, add the vanilla and really beat until smooth and creamy.

You should be able to smell the vanilla. Then, beat in the eggs, one at a time.

Step 3: the dry mix

Now add the flour, baking soda, and salt. Beat until just combined.

Step 4: add the mix in…the deliciousness

Mix in the oats, coconut, chocolate chunks, M&Ms, and berries. The dough will be so pretty!

I used a raspberry chocolate bar that someone sent me. It was cute!

Step 5: baking

Flatten the dough balls a bit before baking. You must do this to help your cookies bake evenly and spread.

Then, to get the M&M’s to really pop, I like to add in a few extras just before the cookies finish baking. This way each cookie has a bit of the M&M’s right on top.

These cookies require no chilling. They really are completely no fuss. We love this!

With perfectly crisp edges, soft gooey centers, plus a little sprinkling of salt, these really are the best kind of cookies!

  • 1. Preheat the oven to 350° F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
    2. In a bowl, beat the butter, brown sugar, granulated sugar, and vanilla together until combined. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, until combined. Add the flour, baking soda and salt.
    3. Beat in the oats, coconut, chocolate chips, chocolate chunks, 1 cup of the M&M's, and the dried raspberries, if using.
    4. Roll the dough into two tablespoons-size balls. Place 3 inches apart on the prepared baking sheet.
    5. Transfer to the oven and bake for 7 minutes. Pull the pan out and push the remaining M&M's into the cookies. Bake for 3-4 minutes. Remove from the oven and let the cookies cool on the baking sheet. They will continue to cook slightly as they sit on the baking sheet.
    6. Eat or let cool and store in an airtight container for up to 4 days.

    These cookies are delish!! Made them for Valentine’s Day. Perfect combo of crispy and chewy with plenty of chocolate in the middle. The coconut is subtle but adds great texture. I may add pecans next time for a little extra crunch.

  2. Love the recipe but couldn’t find red and pink M&M’s nor Smarties (as we call them in Canada). Still delicious just not “on theme”. I froze 2/3 of the cookie balls to bake later…honestly I was afraid I’d eat all the cookies in a day 😳

    I had left over mini Christmas nonpareils and dark chocolate chips. So sadly I didn’t get the whole Valentine’s theme.

    The batter was delicious and so are the cookies!!! I’m going to have a problem of not eating them…

    1. *Update: I was ready to cook and clearly you were out having a life lol so I ran to the store and picked up the coconut. Just baked them. I used three flavors of chocolate: milk chocolate, semi sweet and dark because I omitted the M&M’s. I added strawberries instead of raspberries. And a sprinkle of sea salt on top. Everything else was the same. My 14 yo daughter just tasted them and her eyes popped when she took a bite. She says to tell you they are the Red Bull of cookies They gave her wings 🤣 Also my 19 yo son who is a sophomore at UNC Chapel Hill wanted to cook for his girlfriend last weekend and I recommended a few of your recipes. He made the Tuscan chicken pasta and it was a huge success! He was so proud. So, thanks for all the recipes.
